Root canal therapy is associated with treatment of pulp of tooth. When the pulp containing nerves and blood supply are damaged in some accident, or diseased, then it becomes necessary to remove pulp to save the toot, in turn.
If infection gets severe then it affects the tooth as a whole. In that case, whole tooth has to be replaced by artificial tooth.

Why is it necessary to have root canal treatment?
Root canal treatment is necessary because if left untreated, then it will result in severe tooth ache. The bone around the tooth also gets damaged if it is not treated in time.
Prominent symptoms of root canal therapy:
- Intake of hot and cold food results in severe toothache, so much so that the affected person wakes up at night also.
- Affected person gets pain while chewing or biting.
- Intense swelling and when pressed then pus or blood is released.
- Infected molars may result in pain in ear also.
- However, in some rare cases, some people might not experience any type of pain or symptom.
Procedure of Root Canal Treatment:
Root canal treatment is performed by removing the diseased or damaged pulp and replacing it with some substance that prevents infection. Each second case differs from first one but the basic procedure of root canal treatment remains the same. Anesthesia is necessary to reduce the affects.
Root canal treatment is sometimes associated with Endodontic Surgery where even after proper surgery, the root canal treatment is not complete. In such extreme cases, it is better to surgically access the infection and clean it from around the tooth.
Post Surgical Care:
Even after root canal treatment is performed properly, it is absolutely necessary to evaluate the healing process. Wholesome evaluation includes proper examination of tooth and taking an X-Ray to evaluate healing. Under normal conditions, and proper treatment, root canal treatment can last life-long.
